A.W. Beattie Career Center is a regional career and technical education center serving 10th–12th grade students from nine school districts in northern Allegheny County. The center offers 19 career programs with hands-on training, cooperative education placements, and opportunities to earn industry certifications and college credit.
A.W. Beattie Career Center operates as a shared career and technical education campus for nine consortium school districts in northern Allegheny County. Programs are designed for 10th, 11th and 12th grade students and fulfill elective credit requirements while students continue to attend their home high schools for academic courses.
The center offers 19 career programs that emphasize practical, hands-on learning and exposure to current industry practices and technology. Seniors participate in the NOCTI exam, which can lead to industry certifications and college credit. Sample program activities include designing and building houses in Carpentry/Building Construction and HVAC, operating a public restaurant through Culinary and Pastry programs, and providing salon services in the cosmetology program.
Students have access to cooperative education and clinical placements with local employers and organizations. Cooperative Education provides paid, career-based learning linked directly to students' Career Center programs. The center also maintains articulation agreements with postsecondary institutions to support college credit opportunities.
Students may participate in campus organizations and competitions, including FCCLA and SkillsUSA, Beattie 360 Outdoors, Beattie Ambassadors, E-Sports, and BAT Student Voice. Qualifying students may be inducted into the National Technical Honor Society and may apply for local and regional scholarships for postsecondary education or tools for employment.
