Privacy Policy

Daisy's List ("Daisy's List", "we", "us") operates daisyslist.com, a directory of licensed childcare providers. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do with it.

If anything here is unclear, or you want to exercise any of the rights described below, please reach us through our contact form.

1. Information you give us

We collect the following only when you choose to provide it:

Account information. Your name and email address when you create an account, along with a securely hashed password. We never store your password in a readable form.
Email sign-ups. Your email address, and optionally your name and phone number, when you join a waitlist or marketing list. We record this together with the campaign or page you signed up from, any UTM parameters in the link you followed, and the IP address the submission came from, so that we can tell where our sign-ups originate and can demonstrate consent.
Messages. Your name, email address and the contents of your message when you use our contact form, open a support ticket, or send feedback.
Listing claims. If you claim a provider listing, we record which account claimed which listing, the outcome, and a one-time verification code that we store only in hashed form. The code itself is sent to the email address already published on that listing, which is how we confirm the claim is genuine.
Listing content. Any description, photographs or details you submit for a listing you control. This is published on the site by design.

2. Information collected automatically

Strictly necessary cookies. We set a session cookie so that you stay signed in and so that forms are protected against cross-site request forgery. The site cannot function without it.
Analytics. We use analytics services to understand how the site is used in aggregate: which pages are visited, how visitors arrive, which searches return nothing useful, and where people give up. This tells us what to fix. We use it to understand patterns across visitors rather than to build a profile of you individually.
Advertising and measurement. We advertise Daisy's List on third-party platforms, and we place advertising and measurement technologies on this site, including cookies and tracking pixels provided by those platforms. These tell us which ads brought people here and which of those visits led to a sign-up, and they allow those platforms to show our ads to you, and to people like you, on other sites and services they operate. This means those platforms receive information about your visit, including your IP address, the pages you viewed and identifiers stored in your browser, and they may combine it with information they already hold about you. Their handling of that information is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.
Server logs. Our servers record standard request data, including IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time of the request. We use this to keep the service running, to investigate errors and to detect abuse.
Search location, stored in your browser. When you type a city, address or ZIP code into a search box, we save that text in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it on your next visit. It stays on your device. We do not use your browser's location permission and we do not collect precise device location.

You can limit most of this. Browsers let you block or delete cookies, and many provide a "do not track" or tracking-prevention setting. The advertising platforms we use offer their own opt-outs, and industry pages such as the Digital Advertising Alliance's and the Network Advertising Initiative's let you opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies in one place. Blocking these technologies does not stop you from using the directory. See section 8 for the rest of your choices.

3. How we use your information

To create and maintain your account and keep you signed in.
To operate the directory, including returning search results near the location you entered.
To send transactional email you have asked for or that the service requires: address verification, password resets, listing claim codes and receipts.
To respond to your messages, support tickets and feedback.
To verify and administer provider listing claims.
To measure how the site is used, to improve it, and to measure and target the advertising we run for Daisy's List on other platforms.
To send marketing email, where you have signed up for it. Every marketing message includes a way to unsubscribe, and unsubscribing does not affect transactional email.
To secure the service, prevent abuse, debug problems and meet our legal obligations.

4. Provider listings are not personal data about you

The provider records in our directory are compiled from state licensing records and other publicly available sources, and describe businesses rather than site visitors. They are separate from the account information described above and are published as part of the directory.

If you operate a listed provider and believe a record about your business is inaccurate, out of date, or should not appear, please tell us through our contact form and we will review it.

5. Who we share information with

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We are not in the business of trading data, and no one pays us for access to it.

We do rely on third-party services to run the site, and information reaches them as a result. They act on our behalf, under contract, and receive only what they need to do their job. By category, they are:

Hosting and database providers, which run the servers and store the data described in this policy.
File storage and delivery providers, which store and serve the images shown on the site.
An email delivery provider, which sends the messages we send you.
Mapping and address lookup providers, which draw the maps and turn the address text you type into coordinates. The text you enter into a search box is sent to a provider for this purpose, and because your browser loads map imagery directly, a provider also receives your IP address.
Logging and error monitoring providers, which receive our server logs so that we can keep the service running and diagnose faults.
Analytics providers, which help us understand how the site is used.
Advertising platforms, which receive the information described in section 2 so that we can run and measure our advertising. Unlike the others in this list, these platforms use that information for their own purposes as well as ours, under their own privacy policies.

We may also disclose information where we are required to by law, to respond to valid legal process, or where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Daisy's List, our users or the public. If Daisy's List is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, and we will tell you before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

6. How long we keep it

We keep account information for as long as your account is open. We keep marketing sign-ups until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. We keep messages, support tickets and claim records for as long as we need them to answer questions about them. Server logs, and the data held by our analytics and advertising providers, are kept for a limited period and then discarded or aggregated. When we no longer need information, we delete it or remove the parts that identify you.

7. Security

We protect your information with measures appropriate to its sensitivity, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords and access controls on our administrative tools. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take this seriously and act promptly when something looks wrong.

8. Your choices and rights

You can, at any time:

View and update your account details from your account settings.
Delete your account, which removes your account information from our systems.
Unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in any marketing message.
Ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.
Block or delete cookies in your browser. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will sign you out; blocking the analytics and advertising ones will not affect your use of the directory.
Opt out of interest-based advertising, using the browser controls, platform settings and industry opt-out pages described in section 2.
Ask us to stop sharing your information with advertising platforms, using our contact form.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what we collect, the right to deletion, the right to correction, the right to opt out of the sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of them. We honor these requests from all our users regardless of location. To make a request, use our contact form. We may need to verify your identity before we act, and we will respond within the time the applicable law allows.

9. Children's privacy

Daisy's List helps adults find childcare. It is intended for parents, guardians and childcare providers, and it is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and our accounts are intended for adults. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please tell us through our contact form and we will delete it.

10. Where your information is handled

We operate in the United States, and the service providers listed above process information in the United States and, in some cases, elsewhere. If you use the site from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.

11. Links to other sites

Provider listings frequently link to a provider's own website, and the directory may link to state licensing records and other outside pages. We do not control those sites and this policy does not apply to them. Read their own privacy policies before giving them information.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service changes. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top of this page. If the change materially affects how we handle your information, we will give you notice by email at the address on your account, or by a prominent notice on the site, before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
