Bright Future Early Learning Center

Overview

Bright Future Early Learning Center operates as a nonprofit early care and education program serving children from roughly 3 months of age until they enter kindergarten. The center is located in the Elihu Harris State Building in downtown Oakland and is positioned within walking distance of BART and AC Transit.

Approach and Curriculum

The program is play‑based and emphasizes developmentally appropriate activities, including singing, movement, reading and teacher‑developed lessons. Staff document children’s work and observations to guide activities that prepare children for entry to elementary school.

Staff, Safety and Location

Teachers are eligible for or hold a Child Development Permit at the Associate Teacher level or higher from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing; classrooms may also include teacher assistants.
The center is a locked facility; enrolled families receive badges for entry. California Highway Patrol personnel and professional security officers are present in the building.

Nutrition and Enrichment

Meals follow state nutritional guidelines and include a morning snack, lunch and an afternoon snack; accommodations are made for dietary restrictions and allergies. Enrichment included in tuition has included weekly Music & Movement for infants and toddlers, weekly yoga for preschoolers, and occasional walking field trips and visits to local sites such as the farmers market and the Oakland Zoo.
