Busy Bee Children'S Center

Overview

Busy Bee Children’s Center has served the Waukegan community since 1968. The center provides early learning and child development services for infants, toddlers and preschool-age children.

Programs and curriculum

Programs at the center include:

Infant
Toddler
Preschool
Head Start & Early Head Start — federally funded programs to support school readiness for infants, toddlers and preschoolers; families must meet federal poverty guidelines and qualify for the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP). Early Head Start at the center includes weekly home visiting for children birth to 3 years using the Parents as Teachers curriculum.
Preschool for All — state-funded preschool for children ages 3 – 4 and 5-year-olds who are ineligible for kindergarten.

Family supports, facilities and standards

Healthy Lifestyles curriculum emphasizing nutrition and physical activity.
Bilingual staff (Spanish and English) to support language needs.
Indoor gross motor room and a spacious outdoor playground for recreation.
Parent and family engagement activities, including family nights, field trips, home visits for children aged 3 to 5, parent/teacher conferences, volunteer opportunities, and a lending library of children’s books and parent resources.
Published meal menus and an allergy menu are provided for families.
Teacher-to-child ratios listed for the center: 1:4 (Infant), 1:5 (Toddler), 1:10 (Preschool).
Accreditations and licenses noted for the center include Council on Accreditation, DCFS, Illinois ExceleRate Gold Circle of Quality, and NAEYC. The center participates in the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP).
