Overview

San Fernando Gardens is one campus in a nonprofit early education organization that operates multiple centers in Los Angeles County. The campus provides early care and education for infants and toddlers and is part of an organization founded in 1971 that serves hundreds of children daily across its network.

Curriculum and daily care

The campus uses a developmentally, culturally and linguistically appropriate curriculum grounded in reflective caregiving. Primary caregivers use a playful approach during routine care times and offer language-rich, hands-on activities such as water and sensory play, art, book reading and dramatic play to support learning through play.

Staff, training and family supports

Teacher/child ratios are maintained at low levels (for example: 1 adult to 3 infants, 1 adult to 4 toddlers, 1 adult to 8 preschool children).
Teaching staff are required to hold and maintain Child Development permits and receive regular training, including topics such as classroom management, lesson planning and First Aid/CPR.
The campus offers family support services including parent participation and education, referrals to resources, and priority enrollment options for children involved with child protective services.
Balanced meals and snacks are provided and noted to supply a substantial portion of each child's daily nutritional needs.
