Capic Head Start Rose (Street Community Center)

Overview

CAPIC Head Start at the Rose Street Community Center is a Head Start center serving children three to five years old from low-income families. The program is part of CAPIC’s regional Head Start network and operates under Head Start’s comprehensive child and family development model.

Curriculum and daily services

The program provides classroom experiences intended to support social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through play-based activities. The Head Start model as described includes four major components: health, education, parent involvement, and social services. Children participate in a comprehensive nutrition program that includes breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack for applicable sessions.

Operations and eligibility

Centers are licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
Most classrooms are in session for four hours per day; full-day classes are available for working families who meet income criteria and have a voucher.
Enrollment is for children aged three through five whose family income meets federal poverty guidelines; special circumstances (for example, children with special needs) may also be considered.

Family involvement

Family participation opportunities include volunteering in classrooms, attending parent meetings and workshops, and serving on the local policy council; family advocates provide referrals and supports to connect parents with services and resources.
