The Mt. San Antonio College Child Development Center is an on-campus laboratory early childhood program that provides full- and part-day care and early education for children from 3 months through 5 years, serving college students, staff and the surrounding community.
The Child Development Center operates as a laboratory school within Mt. San Antonio College and provides early care and education for children from infancy through preschool. The program accepts children of college students, faculty and staff as well as members of the surrounding community.
Instruction and classroom practices are built around authentic assessment and curriculum approaches tailored to individual needs and group trends. The center functions as a laboratory site for college students studying child development; students observe and sometimes participate under faculty supervision. Lead teachers hold advanced permits or degrees in related fields, associate teachers hold appropriate permits, and assistant teachers have completed college coursework toward permit eligibility.
The center participates in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and provides food and formula for children in attendance. Families may opt out of the meal program for personal or religious reasons and bring their own food; medical or disability-related dietary accommodations require physician documentation. Breastfeeding parents may store expressed milk in a designated freezer and a private space is made available for nursing.
A federally funded Early Head Start classroom provided in partnership with Baldwin Park Unified School District to offer early education and childcare services for low-income college constituents at no cost to enrolling families.
Incorporates components of the WestEd Program for Infant/Toddler Caregivers (PITC); serves children from 3 months to 2 years, 11 months and emphasizes primary caregiving, continuity of care, feeding practices and transitions such as weaning and toilet learning.
Offers developmentally appropriate activities in which teachers model social behavior and provide materials and complex activities for children to explore at their level, supporting problem solving, persistence and social understanding.
