Child Development Center

Overview

The Child Development Center operates as a laboratory school for Mt. San Antonio College and provides early care and education for young children. The center serves children from infancy through preschool and enrolls students from the college community and the public.

Approach & Curriculum

The program uses authentic assessment to guide curriculum and classroom adaptations and takes a holistic approach to child development, addressing cognitive, social‑emotional, language and physical domains. The center emphasizes culturally and linguistically relevant experiences and maintains an open‑door policy for family participation.

Staffing, Ratios & Safety

Lead teachers hold at minimum a Master Teacher Permit; associate teachers hold Associate Teacher Permits; assistant teachers have completed at least six units in Child Development and are working toward permit eligibility.
Reported staff‑to‑child ratios are 1:3 for infants, 1:5 for older toddlers, and 1:8 for preschool, with Title 5 ratios or exemptions applied when appropriate.
All personnel are mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect. The center permits student observation and use of media for instruction under faculty supervision and requires written parental permission for students to retain images or recordings of children.
