Concrete Rose Learning Center

Overview

Concrete Rose Learning Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates state-funded early education programs to expand access to free preschool and early childhood supports. Programs are delivered in partnership with the Illinois State Board of Education and are housed in the education wing of a local church.

Programs and schedule

Preschool for All (PFA): A half-day program for children aged three (3) to five (5) years old that runs five days a week with sessions of 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Prevention Initiative (PI) / Terrific Twos: A half-day program for children aged two (2) to three (3) years old that runs five days a week with sessions of 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Approach and daily routine

The curriculum is play-based and research-informed, covering literacy, math, science, social studies, social-emotional learning, STEAM, and technology. Days begin with outdoor classroom activities when weather permits and include a mix of whole-group circle time, interest centers, small-group activities, and a daily nutritious snack. The program uses ongoing assessment and portfolio documentation to track development.

Staff, ratios and family engagement

Instructional staff hold required Illinois credentials and engage in continuous professional development. Typical classroom ratios are two (2) teachers to 18 children in the preschool class and two (2) teachers to 12 children in the terrific twos class. The program encourages family participation through regular communication, conferences, goal-setting, volunteering and parent education activities, and connects families with community resources.
