C.P.L.C./Eloy Migrant & Seasonal Head Start

Overview

C.P.L.C./Eloy Migrant & Seasonal Head Start is a local Head Start center serving young children and their families in the Eloy area. The center is part of the Pinal Gila Community Child Services (PGCCS) Head Start and Early Head Start program, which serves prenatal through five-year-old children across Pinal and Gila counties.

Programs and curriculum

The center provides both Early Head Start and Head Start services. Program elements used across the PGCCS Head Start program include:

Preschool services for children ages 3-5 years in a classroom setting.
Use of the Creative Curriculum for preschool learning.
Daily social–emotional learning using Conscious Discipline, including instruction in problem solving, identifying feelings and stress management.
Ongoing child assessment with Teaching Strategies GOLD aligned to Arizona Early Learning Standards to help teachers individualize instruction.
Vision and hearing screenings plus height/weight assessments to monitor child health.

Early Head Start goals and family supports

Early Head Start serves pregnant women, infants and toddlers and emphasizes family engagement and access to health and community services. Goals and family involvement opportunities listed for the program include:

Promoting healthy pregnancies through prenatal education.
Encouraging parent involvement and education in early child development.
Helping families obtain appropriate health, nutrition and social services.
Increasing community understanding of development from prenatal through age three.

Families are invited to participate through classroom volunteering, home visits, developmental assessments, parent trainings, local parent committees and policy council participation.
