Dedham Community House Preschool

Overview

DCH Preschool is a year-round early childhood center serving children 15 months through 5 years. The preschool is located immediately behind the Dedham Community House and welcomes families from Dedham and surrounding towns.

Curriculum and daily activities

The program centers on play-based learning, with activities that include drama, art, science, cooking projects, group time, and music and movement. Monthly enrichment sessions are led by visiting specialists. Snacks and lunch are provided by parents, and the school maintains a peanut- and tree-nut–free policy.

Facilities and outdoor learning

Multiple outdoor learning spaces and play areas, including age-appropriate playgrounds, a butterfly garden, a mud kitchen, a class garden and nature playscapes.
Open playground space available for family events and open houses.

Staff and classroom practice

Classrooms are planned to align with state standards and support social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. The preschool reports a formal hiring process and experienced teachers, with some staff employed for more than 25 years.
