Overview

DIRECTION61:3 is a nonprofit serving youth who are aging out of foster care in McKinney and Denton, Texas. The organization operates both residential and non-residential support intended to help adolescents and young adults transition toward independence.

Services and approach

Provides life-skills training, tutoring and one-on-one mentorship.
Offers emotional and spiritual support, education and employment connections, and financial guidance.
Maintains a vehicle donation and repair program to help youth obtain transportation, and provides financial-literacy courses through a banking partner.
Hosts regular group meetings that include shared meals alongside training and mentoring activities.

Facilities and housing

Operates a network of residential homes used as supervised and transitional housing, including gender-specific and single-family residences.
The organization’s main property, known as The Farm, is being developed as a residential community and programming hub with homes and a community center.
The organization currently manages multiple homes across its service area and plans further expansion of housing capacity.

Volunteer and community involvement

The organization relies on volunteers in many roles (administration, meals, teaching, tutoring, transportation, maintenance, mentoring and respite). Several volunteer roles require an application process, background checks and training for positions involving regular resident contact.
