Ducks Nest

Overview

Duck's Nest Telegraph Avenue is a neighborhood preschool campus serving young children as part of the Duck's Nest network. The campus maintains classrooms for two- to five-year-olds and participates in the organization's year-long program calendar.

Approach and curriculum

The program follows a play-based, child-directed emergent curriculum that emphasizes social-emotional development, relationships, and learning through open-ended play. Classrooms and outdoor spaces are intentionally arranged to support linguistic, motor, cognitive and creative development and to reflect anti-bias, culturally responsive practices.

Facilities and safety

Indoor and outdoor learning environments with play structures, gardens and sand areas designed for exploration and active play.
Staff hold Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification; the campus conducts regular fire and earthquake drills and schoolwide evacuation drills.
Campuses maintain emergency food, water and supplies and have procedures for staff to remain with children until families can pick them up after a major event.

Family involvement and services

Parents provide lunch (the program provides 1–3 snacks per day depending on a child’s schedule) and are asked to follow a no-sweets policy for lunches.
All locations include a nonprofit Parent Association for community building and volunteer involvement; families are invited to participate in classroom and school activities.
The Telegraph campus welcomes families using Hively, 4Cs, and Bananas subsidy programs.
