Overview

Edgewood Preprimary Academy provides preschool, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten education in a small-school setting. The school notes a long local history and accepts children beginning at about 2½ years through early elementary ages.

Approach and staff

Classrooms are kept small with a single lead teacher assigned to each room and a stated maximum of 12 students per classroom. Teachers are described as full-time, trained and credentialed in early childhood education. Parent–teacher conferences are scheduled three times per year.

Programs

Core Programs (Preprimary, Pre-K & Kindergarten)

Core programs are offered year round and are available as a 10-month (August through May) or a 12-month program. Enrollment options include 5 days a week, 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) or 2 days a week (Tuesday and Thursday). The school accepts children between the ages of 2 1/2 and 6 1/2.

Extended Day Program

An extended-day schedule is offered Monday through Friday and selected holidays to support working families; extended-day staff plan varied activities and assist kindergarten students with homework. An afternoon snack is provided and outdoor recess continues gross-motor development.

Summer Camp and Enrichment Program

A summer program runs in sessions (examples provided for 2021) with academic and enrichment activities such as science, art, phonics, math, literature and outdoor activities; some sessions and kindergarten readiness offerings are described as consecutive multi-week programs.

Virtual Learning

Virtual learning classes are available for families that need an at-home option; the weekly academic program can be modified to a homeschool format.
