Overview

Evergreen Community School is a private, non-profit early childhood school in Santa Monica enrolling about 60 children across three classrooms, with a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) class among them.

Admissions and school year

The school year begins in September and runs through June (noted as beginning the second week of September and running through the second week of June).
Applications are accepted year-round and may be held until a child is eligible for preschool.
All parents or guardians must attend a Prospective Parent Meeting to be considered for admission.

Approach and staff

The learning environment is described as informed by a constructivist perspective and designed to allow children to freely and creatively manipulate objects and ideas. Each of the three classrooms is facilitated by a team of three co-teachers. The listed staff includes nine classroom teachers, an atelierista, a pedagogista, an Invention Center teacher, a director and an administrative assistant. Teacher time is shown as approximately 22 hours per week working with children plus additional hours for meetings, documentation and parent conferences.
