Fair Avenue Early Education Center

Overview

Fair Avenue Early Education Center serves young children in North Hollywood and has operated in the community since 1973. The center provides full-day early childhood education for children ages 2–5 in an indoor/outdoor instructional setting designed to support social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.

Curriculum and assessment

The site uses a research-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum (Creative Curriculum) aligned with California Preschool Learning Foundations and employs the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) as an assessment tool to create individualized learning plans.

Enrollment and family partnerships

Enrollment is based on an eligibility list with priorities: children receiving child protective services or at risk of neglect or abuse are admitted first, followed by eligible four-year-olds, then eligible two-, three- and five-year-olds; within those priorities, families with the lowest adjusted gross monthly income are admitted first. Full-day program enrollment has additional documentation requirements for families related to employment, school/training, parental incapacity, or housing status. The center describes a parent component that encourages family involvement and classroom visits.
