Family Connection of Easton, Inc. is the nonprofit family center for the Easton Area School District, providing family support, early-learning home visits, after-school academic clubs and basic-needs assistance to families across the district.
Family Connection of Easton serves families in the Easton Area School District and was founded in 1998. Services are offered at no cost to Easton families and the organization reports serving over 1,500 children and their families annually, including case management for more than 500 families, after-school academic support for about 150 students, distribution of over 750 bags of food, 1,800 educational home visits for preschool-aged children and 600 backpacks with readiness activities distributed at kindergarten registration.
Family Connection works with the school district and community organizations to deliver programs and coordinate resources. Volunteer roles include tutoring, event support and board service. Prior to service (and every 36 months thereafter) volunteers aged 18 and over who will have contact with or responsibility for children are required to complete Pennsylvania child abuse and criminal-history checks and, in some cases, an FBI fingerprint-based check and a TB test; volunteers also complete standard forms such as a nondisclosure agreement, volunteer application and emergency contact information.
A home-based literacy program in which family literacy specialists visit participating homes twice a week, model learning activities with books, toys and games, and provide materials for families to keep; families also take part in group community outings and annual events.
After-school academic enrichment coordinated at Cheston and Paxinosa Schools for teacher-referred students, offering small-group instruction, homework help, snack/dinner and a range of enrichment activities.
Services that build relationships between families, school staff and community partners to help families navigate school policies and access community resources including childcare, adult education, employment, food assistance and health care.
A four- to six-week family bonding and wellness workshop series that uses facilitated group sessions and video materials to develop parenting skills and promote family activities; children participate in recreation and fitness during sessions.
A program providing commercially packaged non-perishable food backpacks to students experiencing food insufficiency, operating school-based pantries and distributing backpacks during the school year.
