First Congregational Church Preschool

Overview

First Congregational Church Preschool offers preschool classes for children ages 2 through 5. Each class is staffed with a minimum of two teachers and class sizes generally range from 10 to 20 children. The program operates within the First Congregational Church facilities in Western Springs.

Approach and curriculum

The program follows a play-based curriculum that emphasizes active participation and development of the whole child — intellectual, social, emotional, physical and spiritual. Multi-sensory process art and hands-on activities are used so children explore and learn through sensory experience and play. Teachers complete ongoing professional development and training to meet local and state licensing requirements.

Programs and activities

Almost 3’s — A classroom group for children approaching three years old, offered as part of the preschool’s regular class structure.
3’s — Classes for three-year-old children within the preschool program.
Pre-K — Pre-kindergarten classes designed to prepare children for kindergarten readiness.
Kids' Day Out — Drop-in day program options offered through the preschool.
Lunch Bunch — Lunchtime care and social time for enrolled children.

Program highlights include summer porch visits to meet families before the school year, seasonal sing-alongs and family events, a holiday workshop, field trips into the local community, visits from a faith community nurse and local firefighter safety visits, and parent social events such as Moms’ and Dads’ nights. Formal registration for preschool classes, Kids' Day Out and Lunch Bunch typically takes place each January.
