Overview

My First Steps operates as a family-owned, home-based daycare in the Andersonville neighbourhood of Chicago. The program serves infants, toddlers and preschool children and draws its families from the local community.

Approach and curriculum

The program uses play-based and multi-sensory activities to support early literacy, math and social-emotional skills. Its curriculum materials include Lively Letters, Handwriting Without Tears and Everyday Math, and social–emotional learning is informed by Responsive Classroom principles. The setting offers bilingual English–Spanish interactions.

Cozy, allergy-aware environment with individual care routines

Meals, family communication and enrolment

Nutritious meals and snacks are provided. Families can set preferences for photographs and videos of their children. The program accepts registrations throughout the year and arranges tours and visits for prospective families; a small number of holidays and scheduled closure days are observed.
