Global Writes is a nonprofit organization serving students in the Bronx and elsewhere. Programming integrates arts, technology and academics to support literacy, communication and collaborative learning among young people.
The organization uses project-based learning that blends creative writing, performance, game design and STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, Math) concepts. Programming models include professional development for school staff, hands-on technology workshops, and team-based student projects that progress from 2D prototypes to digital and VR implementations.
Global Writes works with school districts, teaching artists and families to plan and sustain programming through on-site planning, aligned professional development, in-classroom modeling and development of school technology leadership. Reported outcomes include improved writing quality, increased knowledge retention for some student groups, higher attendance rates, and gains on social-emotional measures.
