Good Shepherd Preschool

Overview

Good Shepherd Preschool is an established early childhood program founded in 1978 on the campus of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The program expanded in 1984 to include infant, toddler and full‑day offerings and provides separate rooms and individual curricula for each program area.

Approach and curriculum

The program follows a developmental philosophy that supports emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual growth. Learning emphasizes hands‑on exploration, sensory experiences, small‑group investigations, language development through play and stories, fine and gross motor activities, and music. Chapel, Bible stories, songs and prayer are integrated into the program.

Meals, policies and family resources

Infant/toddler families supply bottles, snacks and lunches as appropriate to the child’s needs.
For two‑year, preschool and transitional kindergarten classes, the centre provides low‑sugar snacks that meet California nutritional guidelines (served with 100% juice, water and/or organic milk); families supply lunches. The campus is nut‑free.
A family handbook, emergency plan, integrated pest management plan and related policy documents are maintained for families.

Facilities, accreditation and schedules

The site documents outdoor classroom offerings and posts schedules and daily flow documents for classrooms. The program also lists memberships or links to regional early childhood quality organizations and posts annual calendars and classroom daily flows for families.
