Head Start Family Center

Overview

Head Start Family Center operates as part of the Tazewell‑Woodford Head Start program serving families in Tazewell and Woodford counties. The site provides services for preschool‑aged children and supports family engagement and community partnerships.

Curriculum and services

The program uses a developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and the Illinois Learning Standards. Children attend five days a week and are formally assessed three times per school year across five domains: social/emotional development; approaches to learning; language and literacy; cognition; and perceptual, motor and physical development. Services include education, health and dental supports, nutrition, family support, and referrals to community resources.

Meals, transportation and inclusion

Nutritious meals are provided family‑style, including breakfast, lunch and a snack; special menus are planned for medical or religious needs.
Transportation is offered via buses staffed with a driver and monitor; buses are equipped with a five‑point safety harness and routes are established to serve families close to home.
Support and inclusion services are provided for children with disabilities and for children needing additional social‑emotional or behavioral supports, with referrals and individualized services as needed.

Parent involvement

Parents are encouraged to participate in program operations and planning through opportunities such as parent committees, policy council membership, classroom volunteering and parent education or training events. The program provides resources and referrals to help families identify and work toward personal goals.
