Overview

Heartland Head Start - 5 (Five) is a center-based Head Start site in Pontiac that serves expectant women, infants, toddlers and children under five. The site is one of five locations operated by the Heartland Head Start program serving McLean and Livingston counties.

Programs and schedule

School-Day/Full-Year, Center-Based (Early Head Start): A center-based Early Head Start option for infants and toddlers that operates year-round, Monday- Friday for 6.5 hours each day.
School-Day/Part-Year, Center-Based (Head Start): A center-based Head Start option for children under 5 that provides 6.5 hours daily, Monday through Friday. These classrooms are not in session during the summer months.

Enrollment and eligibility

The program enrolls expectant women and children from newborn through age five from eligible families. Applications are available in English, Spanish and French, and an online application is provided. Eligibility considerations include pregnancy or having a child under five, income at or below 100% of the federal poverty guidelines, homelessness, developmental needs, receipt of public assistance, or foster care status.

Family involvement and governance

Parents participate in program governance through Parent Committees and a Policy Council; a Governance Board provides fiscal and legal oversight. The program also works with community partners to connect families to services and supports.
