Holy Martyrs A.R.S. Ashkhen Pilavjian Preschool is an Armenian preschool program that provides early childhood education for preschool-age children. The school operates on a traditional academic calendar and maintains on-site classroom and outdoor learning spaces.

Approach and Curriculum

The program is described as developmentally based and child-centered, drawing on theories of Piaget, Erikson, Vygotsky and Malaguzzi. Teachers incorporate the Reggio Emilia approach and Outdoor Classroom philosophy, and learning experiences include science, math, early literacy, music and drama. Teachers trained in CPR, First Aid and disaster preparedness (Glendale Fire Department/CERT); the school maintains written emergency procedures and practices fire and earthquake drills.

Nutrition and Daily Routine

The school provides three meals to children (breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack) and requires parents to supply bedding for nap time on school-provided cots; bedding is sent home weekly for washing. Menus are planned and managed in accordance with USDA guidelines.
