Overview

ITAV River City is an early learning center in Chicago’s South Loop serving children from birth to five years old, with care options for remote learners older than five. The site is colocated with Village Leadership Academy, providing a direct pathway between the early childhood program and the K–8 school.

Curriculum and educational approach

The program emphasizes early literacy, mathematics, and critical thinking and combines artistic and practical disciplines with everyday academics. Curriculum elements named for the River City site include The Creative Curriculum, Building Language for Literacy, specialized early reading and math instruction, and a Baby Signs curriculum for infants and toddlers. The program describes a focus on culturally responsive practice that incorporates family, culture and students’ backgrounds into learning.

Staff, amenities and family supports

Classrooms for infants through preschool; low staff-to-student ratios are noted.
Teachers and staff with bachelor’s and master’s degrees; staff complete background checks and are certified in Pediatric CPR and First Aid.
