Overview

Kiddieland Educational Center of Excellence II provides full-day early childhood care for infants through preschool-age children. Programming is organised around children’s interests and developmental stages, with an emphasis on emergent, age-appropriate learning.

Approach and curriculum

The centre combines the Creative Curriculum with principles of the Reggio Emilia philosophy. Instruction emphasises children as capable learners, the importance of relationships (family, peers, teachers and community), parent involvement, and a learning environment intentionally designed to support exploration and documentation. Teachers act as observers and collaborators and adapt projects and materials to children’s emerging interests.

Facilities and outdoor learning

Indoor classrooms designed with natural materials, wood tones and abundant natural light; temperature-controlled and furnished with age-appropriate seating, play materials and computer stations.
An Atelier (studio) equipped with clay, wire, paints, beads, shells and recycled and natural materials for art and long-term projects.
Outdoor green park with modern interactive play structures, designated gross- and fine-motor, music and art areas, and an on-site organic garden used for hands-on learning about sustainability and gardening.
Cleaning and classroom materials described as eco-friendly; bathroom fixtures sized for children.

Meals, staffing, safety and enrollment

Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks are prepared daily in an on-site kitchen.
Staff qualifications include a minimum of an associate degree in early childhood education or child development for teachers, and certifications in First Aid, CPR, child protection and safe food handling.
Published staff-to-child ratios: infants 4:1; toddlers 5:1; twos 8:1; three years and up 10:1.
Security measures include keyless entry door codes for families. Tours are available by appointment and are scheduled between 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM Monday through Friday. Enrollment requires completion of several intake and regulatory forms, including DCFS and ISBE documents.
