Kinderhaven

Overview

Kinderhaven Preschool Academy is a developmental preschool licensed by the State of Illinois for children ages 2½ to 6. The program runs during the school year on the School District #67 calendar (September–May) and places children in age-specific groupings.

Approach and curriculum

The program is Reggio Emilia–inspired and structures learning around short- and long-term projects that grow from children’s interests. Educators observe, document, and interpret children’s play and work to support and extend their thinking. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on exploration, creative expression, and social-emotional development.

Arts, values and family involvement

Art is integrated into the daily schedule with a dedicated studio, planned lessons and free art time; children receive a portfolio of their work.
Core values include fostering healthy social-emotional development, compassion and respect for others, and holistic learning that addresses the whole child.
Parents are treated as partners and are encouraged to participate through classroom involvement, monthly parent coffees, chaperoning field trips, and family events. Registration for the preschool is handled in person.
