Lessie Bates Davis

Overview

Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House is a United Methodist community center with a Family Development Center in East St. Louis that delivers early childhood education and a range of family support services. Programming at the Family Development Center serves infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children and includes classroom-based and home-based supports.

Early childhood programs

HeadStart/Child Care Services — Classroom-based care for infants, toddlers and preschoolers that focuses on cognitive, social and physical development; eligibility requires that parents be working or in school.
Pre-Kindergarten — Pre-K classrooms for children ages 3–4 that provide early learning to prepare children for kindergarten.
PROVIDING A SURE START (PASS) — An early intervention/prevention program offering parent training, child development and life-skills classes with case coordination, delivered in homes and at the center.

Other services offered by the organization

The Neighborhood House also runs broader community programs that include family resource and outreach services, youth employment and training, food pantry and emergency assistance, AmeriCorps volunteer placements, and services for older adults such as congregate meals and transportation.
