Overview

Lone Mountain Children’s Center is an independent, non-profit preschool on a campus in the San Francisco Presidio. The school operates a three-year developmental program that blends teacher-led instruction with play-based experiences and emphasizes regular outdoor time.

Approach and curriculum

The curriculum is organized around developmentally appropriate projects and themes and balances direct instruction with immersive, hands-on exploration. Programs

Monday-Wednesday-Friday Program

A dynamic, theme-based program that blends increasing structure with hands-on learning in art, science, music, and movement and expands the daily schedule and goals from the entry level class.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm · 3 years 6 months - 4 years 4 months

Pre-Kindergarten Program

A transitional program combining thematic learning with focused pre-academic instruction in reading, math, science, and the arts, with weekly martial arts and Playball classes and regular exploratory walks in the Presidio.

Daily from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm · 4 years 5 months - 5 years 4 months

Summer Camp

Weekly themed sessions held at the Presidio campus from mid‑June through the end of July for small, mixed‑age groups led by Lone Mountain teachers, focused on play, creativity and exploration.

Weekly sessions from mid‑June to the end of July · 3 years and up

Tuesday-Thursday Program

A first school experience focused on gentle separation, social-emotional development, and playful, thematic learning that includes meeting time, free play, music, creative movement, art, storytelling, lunch, and outdoor play.
