Manteno Middle School serves students in grades 5 through 8 and enrolls about 681 students. The building dates to 1954 and has been expanded and modernized, including an 18-classroom addition and a major HVAC replacement in 2007.
Fifth graders are taught in a traditional self-contained classroom model with specialized instruction in general music, beginning band, art, and physical education. Students in grades 6–8 follow an Inter-Disciplinary Flex Block scheduling model. A related-arts block provides classes in computers, writing, art, fitness, health, and physical education. Each grade level follows its own daily schedule.
The school offers related supports such as band and chorus options and RtI (response to intervention) time within the schedule, along with a range of extracurricular opportunities for enrichment.
