Mckinley Montessori Academy

Overview

McKinley Montessori Academy is a Montessori preschool campus in Pomona that opened in July 2012. The campus includes preschool classrooms and a program for infants and toddlers and serves children ages 18 months–5 years.

Approach and curriculum

The program uses the Montessori method as its core teaching philosophy and employs Montessori-trained teachers with authentic Montessori materials. The school also incorporates learning centers based on Early Childhood Education and Child Development principles. Children's progress is monitored using the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) and classroom quality is reviewed annually with the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS); parent feedback is collected and used for program improvement.

Facilities, meals and family services

The campus is described as having a wide range of learning equipment and materials to support classroom activities.
Healthy meals are provided daily (breakfast, lunch and snacks) and are prepared by a qualified food worker/handler in accordance with CACFP standards; monthly menus are made available.
Resource and referral services are offered to families and the centre uses parent surveys and conferences to communicate about children's progress.
