Overview

Buchanan Elementary School serves students in Transitional Kindergarten through fifth grade. The campus contains 54 classrooms and on-site facilities that support instruction and student services, including a multipurpose room with kitchen, library, cafeteria with an outdoor eating area, an amphitheater, health office, administrative offices and two play areas (one for TK/Kindergarten and one for grades 1–5).

Educational program

The school provides a standards-based instructional program delivered through collaborative teacher teams. The curriculum emphasizes inquiry and discovery within grade-level standards and includes efforts to develop academic skills alongside personal and moral responsibility.

Services and operations

Child care/day care facilities for students in grades TK–5 are located on campus in a separate room.
The site is home to a State Pre‑School program.
Breakfast and lunch are available; breakfast service begins before the school day and monthly menus and meal payment options are provided through district Nutrition Services.
Morning supervision begins before classes start; there is no supervision before the published morning start time and limited supervision after dismissal except for students enrolled in on-site day care.
