Norton Creek Elementary School

Overview

Located on the border of West Chicago and St. Charles, Norton Creek Elementary opened in 2003 and serves families from both communities. The school describes itself as a community of learners that integrates technology into instruction and emphasizes social skills, problem solving and higher-order thinking.

Academics and programs

Grade-level and specialty departments include Art, AT Math, Band, Music, Orchestra, Physical Education and STEM.
An Academically Talented (AT) identification process begins in 3rd grade for placement into 4th grade AT programs and occurs again in 5th grade for 6th grade placement; the process uses achievement and ability testing and content-based placement tests.
AT Literacy students are clustered beginning in 4th grade; AT Math is offered as a pull-out program during classroom math time starting in 4th grade.

Library and student resources

The school library (LRC) maintains a collection of fiction and nonfiction and supports classroom learning and technology use. Students may check out up to four books at a time; the standard loan period is one week and items may be renewed. Overdue notices are sent and families are contacted about lost or damaged items for replacement options.
