Prairie Seeds El School Academy

Overview

Prairie Seeds Academy is a public charter K–12 school that serves a diverse student body from the Brooklyn Park area and surrounding communities. The student population includes families from Hmong, Laotian, Cambodian, Latino, Liberian, African American and other backgrounds, and many students speak more than one language at home. Tuition, meals and transportation are provided for every child.

Academics and curriculum

The school offers a K–12 program with college-credit opportunities for high school students through partnerships that allow enrollment in University of Minnesota College-In-School classes and credit options through North Hennepin Community College and Minnesota International University. Honors courses are available in English, social studies and science. Instructional placement and focus in reading, writing and math use student data to target support.

Language, special education and student supports

Literacy and language-learning courses are offered in Hmong and Spanish. The school staffs reading, math and special education specialists to provide additional support, and counseling and targeted group supports are available for students, including grief and loss groups, Second Step or Crossing Bridges lessons, and anger-management programming. The school maintains a policy addressing harassment and hazing.
