Premier Academy Morris

Overview

Premier Academy is an alternative education program operated by the Grundy/Kendall County Regional Office of Education that serves students in grades 6–12 from Grundy and Kendall counties. It is funded through Illinois State Board of Education grants for the Regional Safe Schools Program (RSSP) and the Truants Alternative and Optional Education Program (TAOEP). The program began in 2004–2005 and relocated to a larger facility in 2013, expanding capacity to serve up to 134 students.

Academics and instruction

Instruction uses computer-based programs as the primary tool, with coursework aligned to Illinois State Standards and the requirements of referring schools. Certified teachers and instructional aides provide one-on-one assistance, offline activities and enrichment, and each student follows an individualized learning plan.

Referral and eligibility

Students are referred by their home school; only students enrolled in cooperating schools in Grundy or Kendall counties are eligible for the RSSP and TAOEP programs hosted at Premier.
Referral materials include a referral form, individual learning plan, updated transcript, attendance and behavior records, and any applicable IEP or prior test scores.
RSSP eligibility covers serious, repetitive or cumulative misconduct, multiple suspensions, or expulsion; TAOEP eligibility covers chronic truancy, potential dropouts with attendance problems, or students already defined as dropouts under state law.

Student support and services

On-site supports include crisis intervention, case management and counseling services.
Additional offerings listed include anger management and violence prevention, grief support, mindfulness, drug/vaping prevention education, study and life-skills courses, workforce skills training, internship/job training opportunities, college and financial-aid application assistance, and a micro pantry/food donations program.
