Overview

P.L.A.Y. Preschool is a curriculum-based, community-run preschool that serves potty-trained children aged 2.5–5 years. The school operates as a non-profit family co-op governed by a board made up of student family members and local community participants.

Community and family involvement

Family and community participation are integral to the school model. Expected forms of involvement include:

Scheduled school and grounds cleanups (three times per year, typically on a Saturday; sessions of 4–6 hours, adults only).
Active participation in an annual fundraising campaign held in November.
Opportunities for family members to volunteer during the school day and to take part in educational activities offered to families.

Facilities and organization

The preschool is housed at the Bird Park, a historic site formerly used as an aviary and research facility, and uses on-site indoor and outdoor spaces for activities. The program is staffed by a small team of teachers and overseen by a board of directors composed of family and community members.
