Rainbow'S End

Overview

Rainbow's End Child Development Center provides full-time child care and early education on the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus for children aged six weeks through six years. The program follows developmentally appropriate practices and principles outlined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and uses The Creative Curriculum across age groups.

Programs and curriculum

Classroom programs are organized by age and use The Creative Curriculum (Infants, Toddlers & Two’s) and The Creative Curriculum for preschool. Daily activities include music, sensory experiences, reading, outdoor play and gross motor activities; preschool offerings mention group activities, creative movement, field trips and intergenerational experiences. The center participates in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program and follows applicable state nutrition guidelines.

Facilities and amenities

Facility designed with an "over the rainbow" theme and multiple interior and exterior play areas.
Eight classrooms, an indoor activity room, and three secured playgrounds; Infant and Red Room have individual playgrounds.
Secure scan-entry building and on-site water bottle refill stations to support sustainability and hydration.
Participation in state child care subsidy and federal food programs; reduced fees available for SIU students and employees.

Staff and operations

The center employs full-time administrators and teachers, supplemented by SIU Carbondale students serving as teaching assistants, plus kitchen and support staff. Enrollment is handled through the center and priority is given to families with current enrollments and then to SIU students, faculty and staff.
