Riverbend Head Start & Family Services

Overview

Riverbend Head Start & Family Services provides federally funded Head Start and Early Head Start programming for income-eligible families in Madison County, Illinois. Services are available to pregnant mothers, infants, toddlers and preschool-age children and include both center-based classrooms and home-based options.

Programs and approach

The program combines classroom instruction and home visiting to support child development and family well‑being. Head Start includes center-based and home-based options for children aged three to five. Early Head Start serves pregnant women, infants and toddlers and includes a home-based model that provides weekly in‑home visits of 90 minutes and twice-monthly Learn and Play groups. Family Advocates work with families to set goals, connect home and school activities, and provide resource information.

Services and supports

Child development services including initial developmental screening, ongoing assessments and individualized curriculum (Creative Curriculum, Growing Great Kids/Families used in home visits).
Family supports such as home visits, parent education, monthly parent meetings and family-bonding events.
Health and nutrition services including healthy meals, toothbrushing routines, oral health education and referrals to community health resources.
Additional offerings that include bus transportation, field trips, outdoor play opportunities, music and movement activities, monthly reading initiatives and referrals for children with suspected developmental delays.
Application requirements listed for enrollment include proof of income for the past 12 months and a child’s birth certificate.
