Room To Grow Preschool, The

Overview

The Room To Grow San Francisco is a mixed-age, inclusive preschool that enrolls preschool-aged children (3–5 years). The organization describes a maximum enrollment of 24 families per location.

Approach and curriculum

The program is Reggio Emilia–inspired and uses an emergent, project-based curriculum. Learning is driven by children’s questions and interests, with teachers acting as co-researchers and guides. Social-emotional development, democratic classroom practices, creativity, and respect for diverse backgrounds are emphasized.

Environment and activities

Indoor and outdoor spaces are used as extensions of the classroom, with children able to move between them for much of the day.
Regular curricular experiences include movement exploration, music and singing, yoga, storytelling and story dictation, cooking and baking, gardening, and science projects.
Studios and materials are presented to invite open-ended creative work with a variety of media and loose parts.

Family communication and calendar

Teachers document classroom work in a private online group for families and maintain active communication with parents. The school follows the public school district calendar, with typical breaks at winter, spring, and mid-summer and periodic in-service or minimum days.
