Ruby Drive Head Start

Overview

Ruby Drive Early Head Start is part of the Orange County Head Start network and offers early childhood and family support services at a site in Placentia. The center participates in comprehensive programming that includes education, health screening, nutrition, and family services.

Approach and curriculum

The program follows a research-informed early childhood approach that emphasizes active, hands-on learning and intentional adult–child interaction. Classroom spaces are arranged into interest areas with materials and routines designed to promote exploration, language development, and individual learning goals. The HighScope infant and toddler curriculum is used as the basis for classroom practice.

Family support, staff, and assessment

Teachers hold formal early childhood qualifications (associate or bachelor degrees and required infant/toddler units) and receive ongoing professional development and coaching.
Health and developmental screenings are provided, and children are assessed regularly with an established developmental profile three times per school year to guide individualized goals.
Families are offered a range of supports including prenatal and in-home services, opportunities for classroom participation, and two-way communication tools for ongoing contact with teaching staff.
