Sausalito Nursery School

Overview

Sausalito Nursery School is a long-established parent cooperative preschool that operates on a school-year calendar (mid‑August to early June). The school enrolls young children and combines professional teaching staff with regular parent participation as part of its operating model.

Educational approach

The program is play-based and structured to support social, intellectual, physical and emotional development according to typical child-development patterns. Teachers and participating parents plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that encourage play, language, creative arts, motor skills and early literacy.

Community, enrichment and schedule

Families participate in a cooperative governance structure and contribute time as rotating classroom aides.
On-campus enrichment includes weekly music and yoga, coached soccer sessions, and periodic special days and field trips such as ferry and island outings and library, police and firehouse visits.

Faculty and organization

The school maintains a professional teaching staff and a steering committee drawn from member families. The cooperative model assigns each enrolled family governance and operational responsibilities alongside the school's director and teachers.
