Shelters Latchkey

Overview

Shelters Latchkey is the school-based latchkey program at Shelters Elementary School in Southgate. The program is part of the school's offerings for students enrolled in the elementary grades (K–5).

Program context and routines

The latchkey program operates alongside other out-of-class supports provided by the school, including in-day intervention and after-school tutoring. School arrival and dismissal procedures require students to be dropped off and picked up at designated exterior doors; parents are asked not to escort children into the building during arrival and dismissal. Early pickups are handled through the school office and parents must sign in any tardy students.

Meals, health and policies

The school participates in a USDA hot lunch program with a prepaid meal account system; milk-only purchases and free or reduced-price meals are available for qualifying families.
