Shepherd’s Flock is an intergenerational day care and preschool located on the Lutheran Home campus in Arlington Heights, serving children from six weeks through kindergarten with a faith-based, developmentally informed program.
Shepherd’s Flock is an intergenerational child care center on the Lutheran Home campus that provides care and early education for children from six weeks up to kindergarten. The program combines play-based learning with Christian education and daily activities aimed at social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.
The program uses low, open shelving and learning centers (art, blocks, science, math, dramatic play, music and books) to encourage self-led play and exploration. Christian education, including Bible stories, related music and crafts, is incorporated into the daily curriculum. The center introduces Spanish as a second language beginning in the toddler room and continues weekly through the preschool years.
The center partners with Lutheran Home residents for regular intergenerational activities and designs those programs in accordance with Illinois Department of Children and Family Services guidelines. The program is noted as meeting eligibility for the SILVER ExceleRate Illinois Circle of Quality.
