Solmar Learning Center

Overview

Solmar Learning Center is one of Felton Institute’s Early Care and Education sites serving children from birth through four years. It is listed as part of Felton’s network of neighborhood centers that provide full‑day, year‑round infant/toddler and preschool classrooms.

Approach and curriculum

The program uses a relationship‑based, primary‑care model for infants and integrates research‑validated assessment tools and curricula aligned with California early education standards. Educators implement a play‑based curriculum (including The Creative Curriculum) and adapt learning activities to meet individual developmental needs and cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Inclusion, family partnerships, and screenings

Programs are described as inclusive and provide accommodations and early intervention services as needed so children with special needs can participate alongside peers.
Family engagement is emphasized through intake, parent‑teacher conferences, workshops, advisory meetings and volunteer opportunities.
Developmental screening and assessment tools such as ASQ‑3 and ASQ‑SE are used to monitor children’s progress.

Daily experience and supports

Classroom activities focus on social, emotional, physical and cognitive development through hands‑on play, small and large group experiences, and routines that support self‑help skills. The program describes on‑site meal service providing breakfast, two snacks and lunch prepared by a central kitchen, and lists staff‑to‑child ratio guidelines for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
