Southwest Early Head Start / Head Start At Educare

Overview

Educare Arizona is a full-day, year-round early childhood center serving children from birth through five years. The site serves up to 191 children and delivers Head Start and Early Head Start services as part of a comprehensive early education program.

Approach and curriculum

Instruction uses evidence-based strategies aimed at school readiness, with emphasis on social-emotional development, language and literacy, problem-solving and early numeracy, and integrated STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) experiences. Teacher development and research-informed practices are part of the program model.

Environment and facilities

Child-centered classrooms and outdoor learning spaces designed for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, including windows at children’s eye level and observation rooms for training and research.
Onsite sustainable features, including LEED Silver certification and design elements adapted to the desert climate.
A courtyard vegetable garden used for hands-on learning and a weekly mobile market that brings fresh produce to the community.

Family support and health services

Family engagement services include Family Support Specialists who provide regular contact, home visits, parent trainings, a parent resource library, community rooms for counseling and groups, and a family development program. An onsite pediatric health clinic operates at the Educare campus through a partnership with Mountain Park Health Center.
