St. Andrew'S Children'S Center

Overview

Saint Andrew’s Children’s Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) child development program that has operated in Irvine since 1985 and serves children from six weeks through early childhood. The center is certified by the Episcopal Commission on Schools of the Diocese of Los Angeles and holds California Department of Social Services licenses for both its preschool and infant/toddler programs.

Approach and Curriculum

The center uses the HighScope curriculum as its official approach to learning, emphasizing active participatory, hands-on experiences. Additional instructional methods in use include Zoo-phonics® for language arts and the Baby Signs® program for infants and toddlers. A dedicated school-readiness team supports preparation for kindergarten.

Staff, Training and Safety

All teaching staff meet Community Care Licensing education requirements; many hold college degrees or are completing degree coursework.
Staff training includes HighScope certification, Zoo-phonics and Baby Signs, Primary Infant Toddler Caregiving (WestEd), behavioral management training (CUIDAR/CHOC-UCI), disaster preparedness, and current First Aid & CPR certification; staff are also trained in epi-pen administration.
Campus security measures include a fenced perimeter and gated entry with keypads; emergency preparedness training is provided in partnership with the Irvine Police Department and disaster drills occur on an annual basis.

Facilities, Meals and Family Services

The campus provides age-separated classrooms and playgrounds and maintains an on-site cook who prepares home-style meals and snacks; many menu items include organic ingredients. Family supports offered include variable scheduling options, tuition incentives, regular parent seminars and conferences, developmental screenings, and periodic developmental progress reporting to families.
