St. Michael'S Children'S Center

Overview

St. Michael's Children’s Center is an outreach ministry of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in El Segundo and provides early childhood care and education for children up to kindergarten age. The program is open to families regardless of race, gender, or religion and emphasizes social, emotional and independence skills.

Educational approach and activities

The program uses a hands-on, experiential approach to learning and offers activities across areas such as science, nature, math, cooking, music, literature, creative media and dramatic play. Weekly chapel time is held in the church and includes prayer, a Bible story and singing.

Policies, health and safety

The center uses a digital check-in/out system (Brightwheel) with individual codes for persons authorized to drop off or pick up children.
The center has written illness and medication policies, including a requirement that children be fever-, vomiting- and diarrhea-free for 24 hours before returning, and specific procedures for administering prescription and non-prescription medications.
Food and allergy procedures include providing two daily snacks, a peanut-free policy, and guidelines for lunches (no heating or refrigeration provided).
COVID-19 protocols described include masking requirements for adults and children over age 2 at drop-off/pick-up, screening via the Brightwheel app, handwashing routines, testing/return-to-school guidance after travel or household cases, and procedures for handling exposures.
