Ucla Early Care And Education

Overview

Early Care and Education (ECE) operates three accredited child care centers serving the UCLA campus community. Services are provided Monday through Friday and are intended primarily to support UCLA students, staff and faculty families.

Approach and curriculum

ECE uses a developmentally based curriculum that emphasizes scientific ways of thinking; the department’s staff-developed "Pathways to Science" curriculum is designed to foster inquiry, observation and problem‑solving through hands‑on exploration.

Staff and safety

Classrooms are staffed by multiple full‑time early childhood teachers who hold Child Development Permits from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
The department reports ongoing reviews of policies, trainings, and security practices and has engaged external consultants and campus police for assessments and staff training.

Meals and subsidies

The program follows applicable state food program guidance for menus, meal service, and snack provisions; written menus are posted and kitchens are required to meet cleanliness and equipment standards.
ECE participates in state subsidy programs (California Department of Education and California Department of Social Services) to provide contracted spaces for eligible low‑income UCLA student families, subject to priority rules and space availability.
