University Parents Nursery School (UPNS) is a play-based, parent-teacher cooperative preschool in Los Angeles that serves children from 18 months through about age 5 across three age-based classrooms.
The University Parents Nursery School is a parent-run, nonprofit cooperative preschool serving children from 18 months through 5 years. Classroom groupings are organized by age and developmental stage, with experienced teachers working alongside participating families.
Instruction emphasizes play-based, hands-on learning where language, math, and science ideas emerge through activities such as block building, dramatic play, cooking, gardening, storytelling, art, music, and outdoor exploration.
3.5 to 5 years old The room includes books, writing and science materials, group conversations, building areas, art, and spaces for children to work together. Teachers help children plan games and projects, bring language and number ideas into play, and support readiness for kindergarten.
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Includes morning snack, lunch supervision, naptime, and afternoon snack. Co-op workday required once per month.
2.5 to 3.5 years old Kangaroo children spend their days pretending, building, painting, climbing, talking, and learning how to play through ideas and disagreements with friends.
18 months to 2.5 years old Our youngest children explore water, sand, paint, blocks, and outdoor play. Teachers guide toddlers through smooth school transitions and partner with parents on potty training at your child’s pace.
