Overview

Whittier Christian School delivers a developmentally appropriate, activity-based academic program that emphasizes cognitive, social and emotional growth alongside literacy, mathematics and creative skills. The program uses learning centers and play-based experiences to support exploration and hands-on learning.

Curriculum and approach

The program follows an integrated, inquiry-based curriculum aligned with K–12 learning standards and based on ongoing assessment. Family involvement and individualized goals are part of the approach. Daily learning opportunities include language and reasoning, block play, dramatic play, art and music.

Headstart

Headstart is offered in collaboration with Plaza De La Raza Child Development Services, Inc.; the program provides free preschool services for eligible children.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten operates from September to June with a focus on school readiness and foundational literacy and math skills.

Preschool

The preschool program operates September–June, uses activity-based learning and learning centers to support cognitive, social, emotional and creative development.

Ready to Read, Inc.

A literacy tutoring program for students in Grades K–12 focusing on phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, fluency and other reading and writing skills; sessions are offered as-needed or year-round with options for small group and individual tutoring.

Summer Program

A summer program runs to help children retain skills learned during the school year and includes Ready to Read lessons aligned with Common Core standards.
